Horseback Riding in Cape San Blas Florida: What to Expect and Things to Know
This hidden gem is forgotten many times when planning a vacation on the Emerald Coast. Cape San Blas, Florida gives visitors a quieter and more relaxed experience than other Emerald Coast destinations with it's beautiful scenery, white sands, sparkling water, bright blue skies, and the sunsets are breathtaking.
You can enjoy the beautiful water by renting a kayak or canoe, can test your skills at paddle boarding, or enjoy the sea life and take a guided snorkeling trip. Deep sea fishing is a big hit for locals and tourists. There are bike and hiking trails throughout Cape San Blas and there are also a couple state parks nearby. And of course horseback riding in Cape San Blas has a lot to offer for visitors who love horseback riding at seaside.
So make sure to visit one of the local stables during your visit so you can take a ride along this beautiful beach.
Two-Bit Stable
Two-Bit Stable is family owned and operated, and have been offering beach rides for over 17 years. All of their horses are selected for their temperament, consistency, and enjoyment of their job. Every horse is trained specifically for these outings, creating a very enjoyable experience for everyone who rides with them. Each horse has their own private stall with fans for the hot summer day, and they also get turned out into the big pastures so they can run and play as they wish.
Beach rides are available at sunrise and sunset, and then different times throughout the day. The Sunrise ride is quickly becoming a favorite with our guests. Riders have the entire beach to themselves, while enjoying the beautiful sunrise. Many times you will also get to see dolphins feeding and rainbows in the morning sky.
The Sunset ride is a great way to relax and unwind from the day. At some times during the year you can see the moon as the sun sets and then enjoy the starry night as the ride comes to an end.
The one hour beach rides take place during the most comfortable times of the day so the horses and riders will not be out in the extreme heat or cold. This is a favorite for families with small children so they don't have to get up incredibly early or be out too late in the evening.
Children must be 7 years old to ride their own horse, but Two Bit Stables offers a short 30 min ride to accommodate families with smaller children, riding the horses is not currently an option for small children. You are welcome to wear whatever you find comfortable for your ride, wearing closed toes shoes is recommended but sandals are acceptable. All rides are supervised by one of the skilled guides, photographs are welcome and at no time are the horses allowed to go over the speed of a walk. If horses are caught trotting, loping, or galloping down the beach it is a $500 dollar fine per rider issued by the county. Please book reservations in advance, by calling the stable directly or booking online.
Broke-a-toe Stables
Broke-A-Toe has been in business since 1995, that's over 20 years of offering guided rides on the beach. Broke-a-toe offers 1 hour and 1.5 hour horseback riding tours in Cape San Blas . The riding experience you receive starts with sign in and a short lesson (5-10 minutes), and how to properly mount/dismount. The rest of the ride is spent on the beach (50-55 min, possibly longer). Families are encouraged to arrive 10-15 minutes early so anyone under 18 can be properly fit with a helmet and all release forms can be completed before the ride is scheduled to depart.
Riders usually ride 10-15 feet between horses, riding alongside one another, for an enjoyable family experience. Horses are required to wear their tails back to catch any waste during the ride. The bags only work when the horse is at a stop so we request all horses stop together if any of the horses need a shortstop.
The county does not allow any waste to be left on the beach, and issues fines to those who do not follow the rules. Per the counties request riders may only ride the horses at a walk on the beach, respecting other non horse people who are enjoying the beach.
If you want to wear sunscreen or apply bug spray please apply this prior to the start of your ride, but it is not necessary for you to carry along with you on the ride. Please wear clothes that you find comfortable and closed toed shoes are preferred but not required.
All riders under the age of 15 must wear a helmet and children ages 3-4 may ride with an adult or older sibling if they fit together in the saddles, and children under 2 are not permitted to ride. Photo packages are offered to all groups and are complimentary for military, Law enforcement and first responder families.
Please remember to book your reservation online or over the phone to guarantee your ride time while you are on vacation.
There are a few other stables listed online but they are not Cape San Blas specific when it comes to riding on the beach. If either of the two stables listed above are not able to accommodate you, ask them to refer you to another stable that may have openings available or ask to be put on their list to be called if someone calls and cancels their reservation.
Enjoy your time in Florida Vacation and horseback riding in Cape San Blas!
